BEATING THE BLOWFISH
Written with humour and candour, “Beating the Blowfish” is a very
personal story of two years of a young woman’s life, offering a unique
insight into the experience of breast cancer.
A yacht skipper by profession for many years Em has battled the
elements around the world enjoying her freedom after turning her back
on a career in the law in the City of London. Aged just 36 and on the
start line of a transatlantic yacht race she was to skipper Em took a
phone call that would dramatically change her life once more. She had
invasive breast cancer. She had to return home immediately for a life-
saving mastectomy and over the coming months she endured debilitating
chemo- and radiotherapy, followed by a second prophylactic
mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.
Throughout her ordeal she continued to race and instruct with the mind-
set that if she could still sail then she was still alive.
This is a compelling book and is an unmissable read for people battling
breast cancer or for family and friends who offer invlaubale support,
encouragement and love.
